Entry for Love Month 2017

How time flies, it’s the Love Month already. As always, I’ll try a series of post for this month. Been doing this since I started blogging in 2007 (I think). Haha! So for my first entry… here’s a flash fiction that’s been bugging me for a while now. Btw, it’s in Filipino.

“Thank you, guys! Please wait for our second set later…” pagbaba ng banda patuloy pa rin ang pagpapatutog nila ng love songs. Pebrero na kasi.

“Uy Michael kamusta trabaho? Tagal mo na dyan. Napromote ka na?” tanong ni Jude.

“Di pa nga, pare. Pag ako nagsawang maghintay…bahala sila! Hahaha!” birong sagot naman ni Michael. “Ikaw Karla? Ikaw din Jen? Dami mo atang sideline ngayon ah.”

“Uy Karla may bago kang tattoo? Anong design? Saan mo pinalagay? Patingin! Dali!” sigaw ni Jen.

“Uhmm… dito lang sa may gilid. Eto oh… it’s an anchor.” sagot ko.

Hating 2016

Most, if not all, hated 2016 with a passion. Good thing that there’s an end to it. Hello 2017, bye 2016! And in all things we hate, we must have learned a thing or two… how about five?

They say that we, millenials, are so entitled. But up to what point? Yes, we’re all entitled to our emotions. We are entitled to feel them. We are entitled to be happy, sad, depressed, mad, excited, etc. etc. However, we are not entitled to our actions. We are beholden to our actions. We need to remember that every action have consequences. So if your emotion is pushing you to do a certain action, better think twice!

You will learn this the hard way. 2016 for me is full of No-s. Every job application I’ve been sending out since June were negatively responded… except for one. Which was just positively responded this December. Those month in between were a bit hellish but they are part of the journey. I love those No-s!!! Why? Because I strongly believe that every No will lead you to your real destiny. Never fear a No for it might just be the best thing that will happen to you.

How many heartbreaks can 2016 throw you? Add those to the heartbreaks that were thrown at you from 2015, 2014, 2013, and so on. That’s a lot of baggage to carry! But maybe time can heal your wounds. It will. However, I’ve discovered, that travel can heal certain wounds as well. Travel nourishes my soul, it renews me. Travel locally, travel out of the country. Travel in style, travel cheap. Travel to places you’ve never been to, travel to places you know like the back of your hand. Travel with your eyes, travel using your feet, travel and smell that different air. Travel to catch sunrise and sunsets. Travel to touch oceans, travel to sleep in another bed. Travel to take pictures, travel to make memories. Travel to write, travel to tell stories. And when you’ve done all those things you’ll see your wounds healed.

They also call it the art of Letting Go. This is hard too, you need a 4.00 in your Philo classes to even try this. Well, ehem… Anyway… Back in the old days of my youth I’ve learn a thing or two about detachment. Some may interpret it as “not caring” but it is more than that. Detachment in the sense that I can let go of things that are simply not meant to be. Detachment in the sense that things can be replaced, that I’ve survived without them before. Detachment in the sense that I don’t dwell too long in situations that are beyond my control. Detachment in the sense that I cared but I understood enough to let go. Maybe this is why I’m always “chill”…

Remember that movie with that hot Jack Frost in it? This is the piece of advice he took that made him a successful Guardian. What’s your center? Maybe it’s joy. Maybe it’s hope. Maybe it’s love. What can keep you going when everything else fails you? What can you hold on to when everything falls apart? Anong panghuhugutan mo? For me… it’s  faith. Faith in goodness. Faith that all things happen for the greater good. Faith in humanity. Faith in love. Faith in faith. Faith keeps me going.

For being such a bitchy year, 2016 definitely taught me a lot. Here is just my top five. Well, top lessons that sounded so mature and philosophical. LOL!

I am happy though. Happy that this year happened. Happy that it will end soon. Happy to have experienced it with people who are fun to be with. Goodbye 2016… maybe, just maybe, your worth looking back on.

Here’s to an exciting 2017!

Favorite Father

Deducing from the title, this is a post-father’s day post (a late post). By default, my favourite father is my father since he’s my only father. Why the title? Nothing. If you haven’t notice before well… I love using alliteration for my titles, thus, the title.

Back in my teenage-angsty day I didn’t appreciate my father the way he should be appreciated.  Fortunately,  now I know how blessed I am for having him as my father. He’s simply the best! He’s a good provider, first and foremost. In our family, he is the organized one, the systematic one. He’s the one that puts us in order when everything seems chaotic. What I like about him most is his sense of humor!  He usually make people laugh with his one liner side comments. Thanks to him I am able to achieve so many things. Thanks to God that he showed me how my Papa loves me. Despite the distance,  since he’s working abroad,  I am now assured with his love. I thank God that He gave me a “new” heart and because of that I have the luxury of time to tell Papa that I love him, everyday, and mean it.

Happy late Father’s Day Papa! Can’t wait for you to go home… take care and I love you.

I’ve asked WordPress to inspire me and this is what it made me do, use a line from a song and use it as my title. So there is my lss, dear reader.

I know this is late but Happy New Year dear reader! I sincerely hope that we will use this year to get all the things we want and achieve all our dreams. Did you know that this year my birthday will fall on a Friday! Yeay for me! This means I’m celebrating on a Friday the 13th! I love it.

Since it is a new year, I guess, it is time to list our new year resolutions (which we all know that 90% of the time we disregard them)… Well, if that’s the case then let’s not make one but make a “bucket list” instead… It has a cool ring to it, right? Nothing so drastic or hardcore as a real bucket list would have. So maybe, we should rename our list… Any suggestions? For now let’s call it our “mellow bucket list of 2013: things we should have done before”.

Here it goes:

  1. Travel. Out of the country and domestically (priorities: Sagada, El Nido, Coron, and Batanes).
  2. Blog more.
  3. Write a story. Not just a flash fiction. Write even a short story. Is this the year to join NANOWRIMO, hmmmm?
  4. Go to the movies more and review them! This would be fun.
  5. More food trips with friends! Try new avenues and kinds of dishes.
  6. BE MORE DISCIPLINED in my studies. I really appreciate that I am taking my graduate degree…
  7. Sponsor a child from World Vision.
  8. Visit an orphanage. Even have a party for them!
  9. Learn how to drive.
  10. LEARN HOW TO COOK. seriously…
  11. Get a job! I really need money to survive. Haha!
  12. Enjoy life more and add more to this list as this year goes by!

So there it is my gentle readers! Enjoy 2013 to the fullest, remember that life is full of surprises so better get ready

Ending Love Month

Few days ago, for some weird reason, I made my finger bled. As I reflect on my finger during the night, it reminded me of Sleeping Beauty. Ah dear reader, how lucky is that girl? In this year can we be sleeping beauties? Can we be as lucky as her? Can prince charming kiss us without us pricking our fingers?

How lucky is Sleeping Beauty? Well she’s lucky because all she needed to do was sleep. Nowadays only few can afford to do that. Not sleep literally… I mean, there’s only few out there that needs not to exert any effort to catch a prince. It seems everyone’s busy applying their make up on and buying the latest fashions. Then when all the props were on them they need now fake smiles, poor pick up lines, and over used body language. Can girls just relax?

I don’t think that the world is thinning on its supply of prince charmings. So chill. Just apply the tiniest make up, put on your most comfortable clothes, and speak in the language of human… And all, then, will fall into the right place. Sometimes, men act like toads instead of prince charmings because women act like plastic barbies instead of real princesses. Be a princess! That’s your identity, a princess…

Dear reader, how time flies… Love month, it seems, is ending so near.

Love Month: Day 8

Oh ok so I missed so many days… So sue me! Hello Day 8 of the love month and I’m finding you, abnormally, peaceful. Although, I’m not sure if that is good or bad. Hello there.

These past few days I find myself hoarding books. I have this incessant fear of going out of books to read. Well, if you know me you can say that I’m a bit of an escapist and I escape through books. I guess I’m hoarding books these past few days because I’m a little bit sad. Depressed more likely (if you’re on the emo side). So earlier, on my way to a bookstore, I told myself to stop. Not to stop reading… But to stop escaping my sadness through them. It’s time to face the music.

I smell Change in the air. It’s coming and I don’t have any powers to stop it. If I can, I won’t. I’ve been waiting for Change for quite some time now. I welcome Change. Hello Change, it’s me… the girl who looks stoically wrong in your presence.

Love Month: Day 2

Hmmm… I just realised that it is a leap year. One extra day for this year. What are you gonna do with it? With whom you are going to spend it? It’s a lovely thought, right? One extra day in your life for this year.

Day 2 in the love month and guess what! My lovely love life stays, sadly, the same…. Zero. I guess it’s not that easy to find love, whether true or lust, these days. How do you attract the opposite sex readers? Tell me. I do believe that you have the answers for me.

I guess I’ll be spending this valentine’s season with friends that are also single. But hey! There’s always next year to spend it with your true love. But then again why wait for next year when you can spend next month with the one you’re in love with. My wish (yes, upon a star) is that you reader and me will have a blast this coming valentine’s day regardless with who we are that day. My second wish is that sooner rather than later, we find ourselves in the arms of a person we are so in love with. That must be nice dear reader?

What’s your plan this upcoming valentine’s day dear reader?

Love Month: Day 1

Oh dear Lord, is it really February already? And we all know what this means right? Yes, how astute you are dear reader if you know that this is the Love Month. It’s that month whether you love humanity or you just simply can’t stand it. Ahh, it’s the month for looooOooveee.

Alas dear reader this is also the month that bugs are so prevalent in every corner of the world. These bugs, no matter how much bug spray you use, wouldn’t die so easily. Be wary of these bugs reader for they don’t bite you in bed they bite you directly into your hearts. Ahh, the mystery of love bugs.

These bugs could either bring you so much happiness or so much pain. I hope, dear reader, that you will experience the former. I guess you could achieve that IF both of you were bitten. And the latter is achieved when YOU are the only one bitten. Ahh, the joys and pains of one-sided love.

Get ready for these bugs people! They won’t stop until they have bitten every marriage-able people on earth. Be armed with endless smiles and captivating charms! Get ready to fall in love in this month of love readers. Get ready for everything for these bugs are nothing if not tenacious.

Hello Love Month, we are so ready for you…

Why Should We Dream?

It was like that perfect scene in your mom’s favourite afternoon drama when this client of our’s (at work) said “It’s hard to have a son who always dream…” Ah, dear reader… I must say I was momentarily struck. I just smiled at her. Then, later, on my way home I reviewed what she said. And I, as always with society, don’t agree with her.

The first thing that came to my mind (on the way home, it was a long ride reader) was that Dreamers change the world. The dreamers are the one to change the world, the visionaries change the world. Inventions and innovations came from them. Would you disagree?

It’s a sad day in earth when a person who has still the ability to breathe air and has a perfect functioning brain loses his capacity to dream. What kind of human are we if we don’t dream? A sad pathetic loveless one. The most tragic thing that can happen to a person is not to die but to live a life without dreams.

It’s not hard to dream reader. It’s even free. Dream every dream you can dream of. Dreaming is the meaning of life. Turn your dreams into visions. Let your visions be the map of your life. Achieve your visions! Claim your wishes! Make your dreams come true! Dream to your heart’s desire and inherit the world…
